Introducing Update 3.1 for Total War: WARHAMMER III! Brace yourself as a storm gathers on the horizon, accompanied by an ominous figure. But fear not, for this update brings a plethora of exciting features to the battlefield. Prepare for the arrival of new Regiments of Renown, revamped faction mechanics for both honorable and ghastly armies, and a thrilling new Endgame scenario centered around the Chaos Dwarfs. And that's not all! This update also includes bug fixes and introduces a formidable new Legendary Hero, Harald Hammerstorm, to the Warriors of Chaos faction.
To unlock Harald Hammerstorm, the original Warhammer himself, follow a simple process. Begin by redeeming him through your CA (Creative Assembly) account. Once redeemed, embark on his quest, "The Hammerstorm Cometh," which becomes available when your Legendary Lord reaches Level 15. Upon completion, you will have a fearsome melee specialist at your disposal, instilling terror even in the hearts of the undead. With his unparalleled prowess in obliterating the undead, Harry the Hammer is a formidable addition to any army. Don't miss out on the opportunity to redeem him for free!
But Harald Hammerstorm is not the only new warrior joining the fray in Update 3.1. This update also introduces a range of new Regiments of Renown, focusing on infantry across various factions. Let's take a closer look:
1. Cathay:
The Dragons now have access to The Bandits of the Silver Road, a regiment armed with buckler shields and flaming missiles. These units serve as excellent support for Fire Rain Rocket Batteries.
2. Kislev:
The Watchmen in the Night, Tzarina's Secret Police, join the front lines. Sacrificing ranged attacks for a second melee weapon, they excel at anti-infantry combat. Their Rabble Rouse ability grants immunity to Fear and Terror for nearby allied units.
3. Ogre Kingdoms:
The Boglars of the Mad Marshes, toad Gnoblars, possess regenerative capabilities in water and come with the added benefit of poison attacks.
4. Chaos Realms:
The Monogod Factions receive new Regiments as well. Nurgle gains The Frolickers Bubonic, Nurglings with blisters that inflict pain on those who strike them in melee. Slaanesh recruits the Princes of Perfection, the faction's staunchest spears, possessing Perfect Vigour and Soporific Musk. Tzeentch unleashes the Chromatic Abominations, Blue Horrors adept at defense, with a powerful barrier replenishment ability triggered by casting spells. Lastly, Khorne introduces The Hounds of the Blood Hunt, Flesh Hounds capable of temporarily nullifying magical attacks, making them potent flankers.
In addition to the exciting roster additions, Update 3.1 addresses gameplay fixes for the Vampire Counts and Bretonnia factions. Vampire Counts' "The Dead Rise Again" ability has been balanced to prevent excessive unit resurrections. The base chance for units to return has been reduced from 20% to 10%, proportional to their recruitment cost. Furthermore, Lord and Hero units now have a reduced chance of resurrection at 5%, ensuring a more engaging gameplay experience against the Vampire Counts.
Bretonnia receives significant combat updates, bringing them on par with other factions in Total War: WARHAMMER III. Units are now divided into Knight and Peasant types, with Knights no longer suffering leadership penalties when units with a peasant attribute rout. Peasants are no longer considered expendable. Knights Errant gain the Impetuous ability, providing themselves and nearby allied units with Immunity to Psychology for 30 seconds during charges. Peasants gain "The Peasant's
Duty" passive ability, granting +8 Leadership to all peasant units when within 55 meters of a Knight attribute unit. The Blessing of The Lady now offers a 15% Ward Save instead of 25% Physical Resistance, allowing Bretonnian units to withstand magical attacks and weapons. King Louen Leoncouer now deals magical attacks, befitting his status as a Grail Knight. Damsels gain access to the Troths feature on the Campaign Map, enhancing their strategic options. Further details on these updates and more can be found in the official blog.
Beyond faction-specific changes, Update 3.1 introduces various general improvements. Loading a game now displays the first 25 saves, allowing for quicker access to your conquests. Additional games can be loaded by clicking a dedicated button. Moreover, you can now delete loaded saves directly from the campaign. Artillery in walled settlement battles now prioritizes actions based on necessity, ensuring more strategic engagement.
Units no longer remain idle when under fire from fort towers and will opt out of guarding units if idle for too long. AI units in Settlement Battles focus on capturing unowned capture points in their vicinity. The issue of AI melee units switching targets while already engaged in combat has been resolved. Event notifications have also been fixed, ensuring all events are displayed as intended. Multiple tooltips have been updated to address inconsistencies, with valuable input from the community.
Finally, Update 3.1 introduces an exciting new Endgame scenario called "The Will of Hashut." The Chaos Dwarfs, known as the Dawi Zharr, rise to prominence, spreading their aggression across the lands. To halt their relentless advance, players must confront the Chaos Dwarfs at the heart of their civilization—Zharr Naggrund. Infiltrate their tunnels, seize their stronghold, and quell their plans fueled by gunpowder, iron, and the K'Daai. This new Endgame scenario offers a thrilling challenge that will test even the most seasoned commanders.
